Summer was sweet and busy at Au bout du museau! We had the great privilege of seeing children and adults alike at the Dadado Therapeutic Farm during the summer months. We took advantage of these great opportunities to test our new equipment and create “cut loose” interventions!

Where did we start? We cut loose with the Joey Jump and Yoga Spinner

Made from hyper-rigid plastic which resists a lot of intensity, this foot activated catapult comes with two bean bags to propel.  Well, then I quickly realized with a little hyper-activty that everything can be catapulted – hahaha. The dog and cat treats were quickly used also.

Don’t do what I did, though, because the grass isn’t ideal as the catapult sinks. Despite my many attempts, they wanted to continue their attempts. A healthy competition settled between them, calculating distance and force of the blow.

We had a lot of fun AND they accepted calculations, giving the animals a chance (because sometimes they didn’t know where the treat was), waiting their turn, being a good loser or good winner, and encouraging each other.

Ice cubes (popsicles for rabbits in hot weather) can be revealing – for obvious reasons! For better results, the older ones wanted to add a block of wood to raise the catapult. Make sure to put your intervention partners at a safe distance.

They put their gross motor skills to work. Mine were sometimes clumsy when it came to estimating the landing zone.

Really, it was great fun for everyone!

We move again, but this time more calmly

At a certain point it became a reward activity! I played this game with young people presenting major motor skill challenges, with young people leaning French, with teens living with the Gilles de la Tourette syndrome… and all pet therapy sessions. I guarantee many laughs and lots of effort to achieve everything well, to the best of their ability. And they want to surpass themselves!

For some clients, I sorted a few cards before starting because some positions were too complex depending on their level. I also liked the white cards a lot that had positions to do in partners. Loads of fun for groups! Really, a must!

Don’t underestimate the immense power of spinning the little arrow. Even the 4 year olds, who sometimes had to recover 4 times before reaching it, persisted and wanted to do it well!

Yes, you saw, despite the rain, they didn’t want to stop as long as … I’ll give you a thousand … until all the cards had been done!

Ever since I was able to get my hands on them, these tools have been very valuable! There’ll be more to follow in a future post using other beautiful new products.
